Information for Leaders

Thank you for your prayerful consideration of serving as a volunteer in Awana! We call our volunteers leaders because they lead kids to know, love and serve Jesus as they grow in respect, wisdom and grace. Training is required and includes reading materials, on-line training and a two-hour Awana leader training class. For most leaders, there is little time commitment outside of the weekly club meeting once training is complete. Awana leaders serve in many different capacities and we will do our best to help you serve in a role that fits your interests, strengths and spiritual gifts. You don't have to be a member or attender at Heritage to serve. As an Awana leader, you’ll learn more about God, Jesus and the Bible, enjoy building relationships with a great group of kids, student leaders and adults, and have fun!

To be an Awana leader, you need to:

  • have trusted in Jesus Christ as your personal Savior
  • be growing in your relationship with Christ and walking with the Him
  • complete the HCC children's ministry application and background check forms
  • complete Awana leader interviews and training
  • demonstrate an attitude that is attractive to kids
  • commit to serve weekly (with the understanding that illness, work or being out of town may cause you to miss from time to time).

On the link below, you’ll find the role description of an Awana leader. Please note that this is a description of the perfect Awana leader, and of course no one is perfect! So consider the job description to be a set of goals and standards to work toward rather than a requirement that you currently possess these skills and abilities.

Awana stands for "Approved Workmen Are Not Ashamed",  from 2 Timothy 2:15.

"Do your best to present yourself to God as one approved, a worker who has no need to be ashamed. rightly handling the word of truth."

So as an Awana leader, we simply ask that you "do your best" in your service to God and the Awana clubbers and families.  If you have any questions or are ready to volunteer, please email awana@heritagechristian.org.  We look forward to serving with you!

In Christ,

Randy and Jinda Skov
